The Riversdale Golf Club Limited Foundation
The Foundation was formed in the Club’s Centenary Year, 1991, by way of a Deed of Foundation with the objective of creating a permanent fund, administered independently of the Committee of the day to help preserve, develop and maintain the standards and facilities of the club, and specifically to:
- Create opportunities for the Club to attract and retain the continued interest and financial support of the members.
- Solicit donations and gifts to or for the benefit of the club from members and from any source deemed appropriate to the purposes of the Foundation.
- Attract and encourage bequests, legacies and all forms of deferred gifts.
- Raise finance for the acquisition of land, buildings or other facilities.
- Provide financial assistance for the acquisition of works of art, furniture and furnishings.
- Augment and assist the club to achieve its desired program of capital expenditure.
The Foundation is administered on an honorary basis by a Board of Trustees appointed for three year terms by the Committee from the Club membership, each with a background of experience in the committee functions and culture of the club, significant exposure to financial and investment activities and a desire to protect and promote the long term welfare of Riversdale.
The Deed of Establishment specifies that all funds held by the Foundation be separately identified within the accounts of the Club and be included in the annual audit process. The capital funds are not (without a Special Resolution of the Club Members) available for general expenditure, cannot be borrowed against and may only be invested in securities authorized by the Trustee Act of Victoria. As such the capital base of the Foundation is preserved and management of the earnings is at the discretion of the Trustees rather than the Committee.
Many members feel very privileged to be part of such a prestigious golf club and obtain a great deal of enjoyment from both the sporting activities and the social functions. The Foundation provides a structure whereby members who would like to acknowledge their feelings for the Club by way of a donation or a bequest, can do so confident in the knowledge that their support will continue into the future. Contributions are acknowledged by way of Life Membership of the Foundation and a permanent record in the Foundation’s Register of Members.
The Committee of the Golf Club and the Trustees of the Foundation are convinced that the long term welfare of The Riversdale Golf Club will be strengthened even further with the success of the Foundation.
Any member who is contemplating support for the Foundation is invited, in the first instance, to discuss their plans with a Trustee to enable options in respect of structure, tax effectiveness and the like to be canvassed. Such enquiries will be most welcome and treated in total confidence.
