THE BOY FROM ABERDEEN TAKES OUT THE RIVERSDALE CUP.
Dylan Perry, the boy from Aberdeen in the Hunter Valley, has won this year’s Riversdale Cup, the most prestigious trophy in Australian amateur golf.
After leading by one shot into the final round, Perry 22 from The Vintage Golf Club, not only held his nerve but went onto increase his narrow lead and take the 72-hole tournament by three shots.
His 15-under total of 273 victory was at the expense of last year’s winner, Harrison Endycott, who finished on a 12-under total of 276.
Perhaps though the story of the day was the performance of Minwoo Lee, the 18-year-old brother of one of the world’s most outstanding female golfers, Minjee Lee, and the current U.S. junior amateur champion.
His 7-under final round of 65, the best of the round, catapulted him into third place in the championship, four shots behind the winner.
At the conclusion of his impressive round, Perry said that the Riversdale Cup victory was ” the best of my career.”
The women’s Riversdale Cup was won by 18-year-old Karis Davidson, from the Sanctuary Cove Country Club in Queensland with a 2-under four round total of 290.
With three holes to play three golfers were locked together before Davidson broke away from Japan’s Avake Furue and Victoria Golf Club’s Gabi Ruffels.
After her narrow victory Davidson said that winning the Riversdale Cup was “high on my bucket list.”
