RUFFELS A NAME TO REMEMBER
The name of Ruffels is well known in Australian sporting circles, mainly for tennis prowess, but it’s likely now and for some time to be for golf.
First to make a mark was Ryan Ruffels who, as a teenager in 2014, won the Riversdale Cup, amateur golf’s most prestigious trophy. He has since turned professional.
Not to worry because his little sister, Gaby, is making a bold bid to emulate her brother.
Gaby, 16, fired a first round 2-under 70 to lead the 2017 Women’s Riversdale Cup by a stroke.
It is early days but Ray’s daughter and Ryan’s sister showed that she has what it takes to stamp her authority on the game she chose over tennis.
The men’s draw is headed by New Zealander, Daniel Hillier, and Australian, Douglas Klein, at 4-under 68.
